Ever since he was a young child, Tom Collison has always been fascinated with nature, its growth and the peculiar unpredictable forms it creates. The idea of form dictated by growth is ever-present in his furniture pieces.
Tom trained as a dyer, printer and surface pattern designer at Leeds Arts University and went on to study at the Royal College of Art. His education was the basis to his understanding of colour, material and texture. Using this knowledge of aesthetics, his work looks to cross disciplines and brings together materials to create dynamic pieces of sculptural furniture.
Material consciousness plays a big part in Tom’s work; he is an advocate for interrogating a material’s origin and impact of its use.
