Meghan Spielman is an artist based in Bozeman, MT, whose work is rooted in traditional weaving techniques, focusing on dynamic interactions between colour, material and structure.
The process of weaving is an intricate combination of rationality and intuition. It can be simultaneously uncontrollable and controlled. The dichotomy between simple moments and complex layers within Meghan’s work asks the viewer to reflect upon, then reconsider their relationship to textiles.
Always looking to celebrate the use of natural/renewable or recycled yarns, Meghan carefully selects thoughtful materials while creating her original, one-of-a-kind artworks for Inland. The pieces use a combination of cotton, linen, wool, recycled silk made from loose ends of saris, and upcycled waste cones of viscose chenille.
Meghan received an MA in woven textiles from the Royal College of Art, London 2017 and a BFA in fashion design from Parsons School of Design, NYC 2013.
