Camille is a British-French artist from London, now based in México, where she lives and works from home.
Colour is at the centre of Camille's life. She is drawn to power dynamics in the natural world and how humans have ostracised themselves from other fauna and flora – it’s this relationship she tries to rebuild through her work. Her process begins with an abstract conversation in her head translated into a sketch or collage. She then does a final painting, which may eventually be transformed into a textile. Camille dyes most of her own yarns (almost always cotton and jute) and usually works on a domestic knitting machine.
Camille believes in not only the sustainability of craft and art practices but also ethical human labour and culture. Working with other artists is an important and exciting part of the process for her, in particular with her relationship with long-term collaborator and weave artist Maestro Tito Mendoza Ruiz from Teotitlán Del Valle in Oaxaca, México.
