Orla Lawn

Orla Lawn is an Irish designer-maker working in material innovation and interior surface design. Currently based in Liverpool, she is a graduate of the Royal College of Art and Central Saint Martins. With a background in textiles and architecture, Orla’s work often bridges the fields of craft and construction.

Developed while at the Royal College, Orla's surface material, Spelk, is the innovative result of her in-depth research into hybrid craft processes and tactility in the built environment. A childhood spent between rural Ireland and the city of Brussels, exposed Orla to contrasting styles of architecture and design. Inspired by the expressive use of materials in early twentieth-century interiors, Orla's furniture and objects combine simple forms with intense pattern.
