Characterised by rich colour and material experimentation, Hannah Refaat’s luxury embroidered accessories uplift the spirits.
The British-Egyptian designer combines hand and machine embroidered textiles, fusing traditional Middle Eastern and Western techniques. Each piece of material is carefully considered using different weights and qualities of surfaces to create layers and depth.
Hannah’s visual research explores the landscape and environment of the Middle East, where she spent many months forming memories over the years; this inspires her to organically draw with stitch using the fabrics as a canvas.
Hannah has modelled her business with a sustainable framework at the forefront. All items are made to order, avoiding excess waste and reducing the risk of over-stocking. She pays equal and fair pay to textile workers as a means to improve their livelihood. During Covid, Hannah was unable to access materials as easily as before, so she’s made use of what she already has, recycling fabrics.
